Recruiting Visitors for December 3-5
Tulane has a great crop of visitors on campus this weekend that features a mixture of players who are already committed to Tulane, players who are committed elsewhere and a few undecided players. Here is a list of players on campus:
Committed to Tulane:
De’Carlo Donaldson WR- Gulliver Prep in Miami. Donaldson is being heavily pursued by several schools after a big 2021 season. Offers include Florida, Florida State, West Virginia, Ole Miss, USF and Indiana.
Carson Haggard QB- Gulliver Prep in Miami. Haggard appears to be firmly committed to Tulane after committing this Summer. Offers from FIU, USM and William & Mary.
Blake Gunter TE- Madison Central in Mississippi. Gunter was heavily recruited out of Madison Central by the likes of Ole Miss, Arkansas, Florida State, Memphis, UCF, West Virginia and Tennessee.
Jaylin Lucas RB- Edna Karr. Lucas transferred from Terrebone to Karr after the hurricane and has shot up the recruiting rankings. He holds offers from Florida St., Maryland, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Louisville, Kansas, ECU and several others.
Isaiah Boyd DL- Haverford, PA. Boyd reported offers from Wake Forest, Kent St., UMass, Central Michigan, Marshall and others.
Taylor Love LB- Opeleika HS, Alabama. Love is a recent Tulane commit and he holds offers from Georgia Tech, Louisville, Ole Miss, ECU, Wake Forest and others.
Avery Sledge LB- Forrest County, MS. Sledge committed to Tulane early in the process and has recently picked up offers from Boise State and Mississippi State.
Speedy Rogers WR- Miami Northwestern. Speedy committed to Tulane early in the process as well and essentially shut down his recruitment. He has an offer from Syracuse. However, he’d probably have a lot more had he not completely shut it down (he didn’t even post Hudl highlights this year).
Committed Elsewhere:
Rayshawn Pleasant DB- West Monroe (Committed to LA Tech). Pleasant may be in play now that the LA Tech staff has turned over. He holds offers from LA Tech, Memphis and ULL.
Trey Lathan LB- Gulliver Prep in Miami (Committed to West Virginia). Lathan holds several big name offers including Pitt, Florida, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Louisville, Tennessee, Virginia…and many more. While he is committed to WVU, the Tulane staff has recruited him very hard since the start. Maybe Donaldson and Haggard can convince their HS teammate to follow them to Tulane???
Chris Brazzell WR- Midland Legacy in Texas (Committed to FAU). Brazzell has good size at 6’3”and holds offers from FAU, Austin Peay, New Mexico St. and Southern.
Uncommitted Players:
Jackson Long TE- Beech HS in Tennessee (previously committed to Tulane). Long was an early Tulane commitment who backed off his commitment recently. He reported several offers including his father’s alma mater Florida State. It will be interesting to see if Long has another change of heart and re-commits to the Wave.
Hershey McLaurin DB- Jones County CC. McLaurin’s recruitment has blown up of late receiving offers in the last few days from West Virginia and Memphis. He also holds offers from South Alabama, Texas State and USM.
Makhi Hughes RB- Huffman in Birmingham, Alabama. Hughes has offers from Houston, Florida State, Kansas, Charlotte and App State among others.
Gerrod Henderson DL- Spring, TX. Henderson holds offers from Houston, Texas Tech, UTSA and ULL. Texas Tech’s new staff offered Henderson only 2 days ago and could make a late push for his services. Tulane was in early. Will that be enough to secure his signature?
The Takeaway: This is a great crop of players that Wes Fritz and company have created relationships with over the course of the past year or two. Tulane will be looking to hold onto some of their bigger recruits who are starting to get more recognition on the recruiting trail while also securing commitments from uncommitted players or players committed to other schools. While it would be a big flip, if Tulane could land Trey Lathan, that would be an enormous win for Coach Fritz.
