Tulane WR Mykel Jones will not appear this season after injury
The former Sooner will not get a second season with the Green Wave
The Tulane offense lost a veteran this week as redshirt senior WR Mykel Jones will end his college football career due to an injury sustained in 2020.
During his media availability yesterday, Tulane Head Coach Willie Fritz shared that Jones will “hang it up.” Fritz said that Jones “tried as hard as he could to play and rehab the heck out of it. Our doctors and our coaches didn’t feel comfortable with it.”
Jones transferred to Tulane in the spring of 2020 from Oklahoma. In his lone season with the Wave, Jones appeared in 11 games. His most productive performance with Tulane was his four reception outing for 48 yards in a win over East Carolina last November.
Fritz commented on Jones’ efforts to make it back for this year and confirmed that the injury came in the Memphis game: “In the game of Memphis which was late in the season, our last regular season game, he did his ACL. It was a very significant injury. He worked his tail off to try and make it happen, and we couldn’t quite get it done.”
Jones was set to face his former school when the Sooners come to New Orleans for the season opener on September 4th. Best wishes to Jones.
